'YOU PLUCKED THE QUESTIONS INSIDE MY MIND AND ANSWERED THEM FROM THE BIBLE!'
(Duke Jeyaraj Ministry Report/G4 Mission Ministry Report) / 2018

God graciously used us - Evangelin Duke and Duke Jeyaraj - in the ministry of reaching the Google Gen this year. This year, Duke preached in Delhi in the North to Coimbatore in the South, from Vizag in the East to Kozhikode in the West.

    CHURCH
This year, we were invited by churches to preach God's Word on Sunday Mornings. In Vizag Christian Assembly (Jan 2018) Duke Jeyaraj preached a message on The Most Central Theme of the Bible's Biggest Book (Jeremiah). That message blessed the audience. Here is the message: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EvQm2fZYbw. Churches in Madurai, Coimbatore and Kozhikode were also touched by the preaching of the Word on a Sunday morning.

    CAMPS
This year, we were invited to preach in youth camps/youth meetings across India. Young people came to the altar to give their lives to Jesus. Here is video clip that shows that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CK9cfgMIOU (see the last few minutes). In October alone we preached in four youth meetings/camps.

    CRYING
This year, we conducted Fountain of Tears Against Mountain of Fears Fasting Prayers at our base/rented home. Small groups of people from different walks of life (corporates/homemakers/senior citizens) came to pray for the nations first and their needs finally. The Karnataka State Elections, The 'semifinal' state elections - we prayed for these. Prayer against so-called soft porn via the streaming devices - we raised these. Duke Jeyaraj preached short messages in between. His two messages that brought out pivotal Bible Truth from two actresses' lives - Sri Devi and Savitri were preached in this Fasting Prayer. Here are the links: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0ydFEbvc7w (Sri Devi)
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T08nJQ-MQFc (Savitri)

    CALLING THEM IN
We went for outreach armed with the Bubbly/Dhoni tract of Duke to various places in Hyderabad this year. Traffic junctions/outside colleges/outside corporate offices were our favorite spots. We had an outreach for transgenders as well. Before/After such distributions we had street-side devotions on why we must evangelise/give tracts. An Assemblies of God pastor joined for one of the outreaches. Here is one video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQQy2v2FjYI. It was a joy to go the highways and byways and call them for the wedding feast of Jesus this way!

    CATAPULTING
We conducted the Sound Doctrine that Pumps Spiritual Adrenaline Bible Studies. The venue was the centrally located in Hyderabad home of the Daniels. The Doctrine of the Church was put in the acronym c-h-u-r-c-h for example. The fate of the unevangelised was practically studied. Here is one message from that series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bt7UoJDInJo. These studies - sometimes lasting for 90 minutes - were solid meat for those who want to be disciples of Jesus. They were meant to catapult baby believers into breeding believers.

    CREATING CUTTING EDGE VIDEOS
We produced Short Videos on Hot Topics - thanks to our volunteer Sunny Karumanchi's hard work. 25 of such videos are already on Facebook/Youtube. Several testimonies about these abound. Here is the most watched video in that series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ukQT7lnews. These videos shot with Sunny's high-end equipment is cutting edge - in 4k with clear audio.

    CUTTING UP
We cut up Duke Jeyaraj messages and uploaded clips to suit Instagram videos (maximum video can be only 1 minute long here). We called this series Under One Minute Punch. Instagram is the preferred social media site of today's youth. Sunil our volunteer helped in this regard. Here is one such video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxQ3dvz4iKk

    CHILDREN
Duke was invited by a school in the National Capital Region to speak to its senior students. Duke spoke in two campuses of this school. Duke wrapped the Gospel/Bible Truth around interesting videos like the Priya Varrier wink video! Students from different backgrounds made commitments to follow Jesus. Hundreds of students were touched.

    COUNSELING
We counselled people by having those who reached to us for counsel over phone/over coffee shop conversations. Post these counsels/conversations sinners prayer was prayed, confusions about life partner was cleared, marriage problems were sorted out, stubborn habits were broken. Because we maintain confidentiality we cannot give details of our counselling ministry that even touched someone from far away New Zealand!

    COUPLES
In 2018 Duke and Evan together ministered in a couples' camp. Duke preached in an engagement of a couple where folks from the movie world were there.

    CHANNELS
By visiting our Youtube channel, www.youtube.com/visitduke people found answers to their questions. We have now over 366,000 hits there. This year we created playlists on hypergrace cult / sound doctrine / Bible Studies on all 66 books etc.

Our audio channel, www.soundcloud.com/shoutaloud has over 88000 hits. Questions of Youth Answered Through the Book of Hebrews is one such message titled uploaded onto our channel: https://soundcloud.com/shoutaloud/youthquestionshebrewsduke

Duke was invited by IAM TV Vellore to take part in a practical doctrinal discussion this year. This program is being telecast during Sunday nights in the Vellore area.

    CROSSING
We remained not only interdenominational but also inter-organizational. The Baptist church invited us for their youth program on August 15th. A non-denominational church also did so on the same day. An Assembly of God church invited Duke over to minister to their fasting youth for two days. Asha Foundation (a Christian Organisation) invited Duke to preach in their Christmas Program. Duke as an individual was ordained by the Assemblies of God of India this year. Duke is not a pastor. Duke attends a local church with his family and gives to that church (rather than receive) and other ministers whom the Lord prompts him to give (from the offerings God blessed him and Evan with). That local church is the New Life Assembly of God, Kompally, Hyderabad. Pastor Arlene Stubbs, this church's senior pastor, remains a great source of encouragement for the Dukes. Evan Duke was asked to preach in the Women's Sunday of this church (March 2018). Here is the video of that powerful message to over 5000 people across three services from Jeremiah 18 (the Potter's House passage): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lh-eKSmqALA. Duke helped in fundraisers for this church's new building by doing cricket commentary! G4 Mission, our church, is a supplement to the local church - never a substitute. Thank God - we frequently cross both organizational and denominational boundaries - when it comes to ministry!

    COPYBOOKS
We published two issues of the magazine that wraps Bible Truth around contemporary events - The Days of Your Youth. Eugene Pandian did the mag design. A doctor in a famous hospital picked up one of this year's issues and said: "Only RZIM's mag, Engage is of the same quality and finish like this mag - The Days of Your Youth". We also published the book Straight Talk (on sex, love, marriage and porn and such hot topics) through Word of Christ publishers. Pastor Clement dedicated Duke's new book in Coimbatore (June first Sunday). This book is now sold via Amazon apart from Word of Christ book stores across India. OM India's biggest store also houses this book. 40 hot issues - from porn to sexting to handing romantic rejections - are handled in a biblical way in this book. Top leaders - including Rev. Anitha Aidinyantz, Rev. D. Mohan, Rev. Dr. YD Jeyaseelan, Rev. Stanley Mehta, Rev. Sam (Life Fellowship, Trivandrum), Rev. Abbey George (IJM - USA), etc., - apart from secular leaders (professors in US Universities) were gracious to give forewords/promos for this book.Hepsibah Paul, Lima Eugene, Percy John served as voluntary text editors. "You Plucked The Questions from my mind and answered them!" - that was one response to the book, Straight Talk.

    COMPOUND WALL
We held our Board Meeting this year and filed Income Tax through G4 Mission and received the acknowledgement. All our partners are Indians/of Indian origin. We are not supported by any foreign church/organisation. We audit our accounts. Our senior most board member is a non-relative who knows Duke from his childhood: Silver Ramesh Annan. The compound wall of accountability has been set around our ministry this way.

    COUNTRYMAN MIKE AND MORE
God added the following gadgets this year to speed up the work of getting the Gospel via Social Media: a countryman mike/a high-end android phone-video recording device/ Ipad pro audio enhancing Rode mike. Thanks to the giving of God's people we are able to get the latest gadgets to broadcast God's Word for the Google Generation!

    CHAU
Duke also wrote articles that brought Bible Truth on hot current topics and sent them via WhatsApp. For example the last article was on John Chau, the American Missionary martyr to North Sentinel islands, whom he called "the man of the year for me". You can read the full article here: https://dukewords.wordpress.com/2018/12/31/the-person-of-the-year-2018-for-me-john-chau-the-daring-missionary-martyr-to-north-sentinel-islands-duke-jeyaraj-his-story-in-a-memorable-outline/ (www.dukewords.wordpress.com is a new website where Duke posts new articles).

    CLUSTER
Duke's articles were published in AIM magazine (published by Evangelical Fellowship of India, New Delhi), Light of Life Magazine (published out of Mumbai) and Better Future magazine published out of Kerala. Here is the title of one of the articles: Excuses for a Homosexual Life Style Refuted. This mag cluster reaches about 40000 English readers around India and the world.

    CROSSING LANGUAGE BARRIERS
Duke created a new Hindi Facebook Ministry Resource page. This would serve to teach what God's Word has to say about sex, love, marriage to Hindi readers. An unnamed volunteer manages the Hindi translation of Duke's English articles on these topics. Here is the link: www.facebook/dukehindi. Also, Duke arranged for the translation of his Bible Devotion Plan with popular App Youversion in several Indian languages. It was translated into Tamil, Hindi, Bengali, Telugu and Malayalam. The English plan has seen over 100,000 completions. It can be read here: https://www.bible.com/reading-plans/2317-porn-temptation-beaten. Duke wrote a plan on discovering joy for Youversion which has finished 10,000 completions. You can read that plan here: https://www.bible.com/reading-plans/12225-this-lasting-joy-comes-when-you

    CURED
This year Duke had health challenges. In the month of October he had acute abdomen pain just before preaching in Coimbatore. In the month of December, he was diagnosed with kidney stone curable with tablets. He is fine by God's grace now. Dale, Duke's son is gearing up to write his grade 10 exams. Datasha, Duke's daughter is in grade 6. Evan Duke's behind-the-scenes support is invaluable. She also studies a course in SAIACS - M. A. Leadership (Online).

THE PERSON OF THE YEAR 2018 FOR ME, NORTH SENTINEL ISLAND MISSIONARY MARTYR JOHN CHAU: HIS GRIPPING STORY IN THE HOOKED-NO HOOKUPS – HOOKED LITERALLY OUTLINE – Duke Jeyaraj

For the Time magazine, the people of the year were the “guardians” – journalists who risked their lives to tell the truth. One of them was Jamal Khashoggi. He was brutally murdered, heartlessly butchered, allegedly with weapons that included a bone saw when he went to the Saudi embassy in Istanbul, Turkey, on October 2, 2018. Jamal was a well-known critic of the Saudi Prince, Mohammed bin Salman (MBS).
Who was the Person of the year for me? It was the 26-year old young man by the name of John Allen Chau. John Chau who? The missionary from America who dared to go to the tribes in the North Sentinel Islands to share about the love of Jesus with them in 2018. We know John Chau lost his life in this noble process.
In the honour of his memory I want to summarize John’s life using a memorable outline the Holy Spirit gave me:
First, John Chau was HOOKED. He was hooked to the mission of reaching the tribals in the North Sentinel Islands – the most dangerous island in the world. He prepared himself for this mission with great passion.
I consider myself a missionary to the Google Generation, the Facebook Folk, the Whatsapp World, the Twitter Troupe, the Hotmail Herd, the Presentday People. John Chau’s story inspires me to keep doing what I am doing with greater fervour. Jeffrey Gettleman, Kai Schultz, Ayesha Venkataraman and Hari Kumar write in New York Times on November 30, 2018 write very eloquently about the way John Chau prepared like a man possessed, like a man totally hooked-to-a-cause, for a mission that would cost him, his very life:
“Just months before undertaking the most forbidding journey in his life as a young missionary to a remote Indian Ocean island, John Allen Chau was blindfolded and dropped off on a dirt road in a remote part of Kansas.
“After a long walk, he found a mock village in the woods inhabited by missionaries dressed in odd thrift-store clothes, pretending not to understand a word he said. His role was to preach the gospel. The others were supposed to be physically aggressive. Some came at him with fake spears, speaking gibberish.
“It was part of an intensive and somewhat secretive three-week missionary training camp. Mary Ho, the international executive leader for All Nations, the organization that ran the training, said, “John was one of the best participants in this experience that we have ever had.”
“For Mr. Chau, 26, the boot camp was the culmination of years of meticulous planning that involved linguistics training and studying to become an emergency medical technician, as well as forgoing full-time jobs so he could travel and toughen himself up.

“He did it all with the single-minded goal of breaking through to the people of North Sentinel Island, a remote outpost of hunters and gatherers in the Andaman Sea who had shown tremendous hostility to outsiders.
“It was an obsession. Ever since Mr. Chau had learned in high school through a missionary website, the Joshua Project, that the North Sentinel people were perhaps the most isolated in the world, he was hooked. Much of what he did the rest of his short life was directed toward this mission.
“He would pull up Google Maps and point to a green speck in a place no one had ever heard of — the Andaman Islands, far off the coast of India — and tell his friends with a buoyant smile: “I’m going there.”
(“John Chau Aced Missionary Boot Camp. Reality Proved To be a Harsher Test.” The New York Times, November 30, 2018).
Daniel Wesley, someone who used to receive John Chau’s monthly ministry newsletter writes in detail about John was hooked to the mission of reaching the people of the North Sentinel Islands:
“Countless young Christians, in their youthful exuberance, go through a “stage” of their faith wherein they too desire to reach the unreached with the gospel. Most of these move on to other goals which draw their attention away, but John wasn’t like most people. He held on to his love for the North Sentinelese through college and began taking every opportunity to prepare himself for such a radical calling and purpose for his life even these past few years after college.
“Let’s briefly consider how he prepared himself for the rigors of life among a stone age tribe like the North Sentinelese. He chose to study Health, Exercise Science, and Sports Medicine as an undergraduate. He subsequently received wilderness survival EMT certification after graduating from university and became a wilderness emergency medical technician to be prepared for the many emergencies that are an inevitable part of the life he was choosing. At one point he survived a rattlesnake bite. It turns out, John did almost everything a person could do in order to prepare for the life he was choosing by moving to North Sentinel Island.
“….no one on the planet, aside from the North Sentinelese themselves, know their language. Historical attempts to have other islanders come close and listen have been fruitless and, as far as anthropologists know, they appear to have been isolated far too long for their language to have any contemporary cousins. This means that the only way a person could ever speak their language is to live among them and learn it. To this end, John took a highly specialized course in linguistics and cultural anthropology which emphasizes how to learn a language from scratch. This particular course trains one in how to preserve a language that has never been written down. To further strengthen his linguistic skills, John’s private reading list in 2017 and 2018 included seven different books on linguistics, phonology and language acquisition. He also read 9 different books on the Andaman Islands, most of which were about North Sentinel Island in particular. In addition to those books, he read a variety of others written by those who had successfully reached stone age tribes with the gospel at various points in history. All told, John read 113 books in the 21 months before landing on the shore of North Sentinel Island. The average American reportedly reads 12 books in a year, John read 65 books in the first 9 months of 2018 alone.”
(“A friend's reflection on John Chau’s journey to North Sentinel Island”, Christian Post, December 28, 2018).
John Chau was totally hooked to the cause of mission to these totally unreached tribes. Are we hooked to the cause that God has called us to do? If God has called us to be a Tent-making missionary to Gurugram in the National Capital Region, are we hooked to that cause?
Second, John Chau not only HOOKED TO THE CAUSE, he refused HOOK-UPS THAT WOULD DISTRACT HIM FROM THE CAUSE. John Chau refused to get into romantic relationships deliberately in the years that ran-up to his fatal mission in 2018. The Quint (28 November 2018) reports “His friend, John Middleton Ramsey, claims Chau was so obsessed with the island that he even avoided “romantic attachments because of his planned mission.” He knew that it would be extremely unfair on his part to fall in love with a girl when he was about to go on a dangerous mission for God. Or, it could be that he knew “the one who takes you to bed, will influence your head”. So, if he married a materialistic girl, there was a good chance she would talk him out of his plans to go as a missionary to North Sentinel Islands.
If God has spoken to you about a group of people you have to reach as fulltime missionary or a tent-making missionary (I am sure God would lead every serious believer to one group or many groups to be a missionary – fulltime/tent-making missionary – to them), how have you go about the task of choosing your life partner? If you are single, you must choose someone who is as feverish like you about that mission, like you are! “Can two walk together unless they are agreed?” the Bible asks us in the book of Amos. Marriage is a life-long walk and you must find some agreement about your life goals with the person you will marry. I was very particular that the person I married, would have committed for full-time ministry prior to that person’s romantic interest in me. Evan and I became romantically interested in each other in our mid twenties. But both of us, in different venues, under the influence of different preachers, committed for fulltime ministry when still in our teens! It was because of this very reason, it was not tough for Evan to tell me to stop working in the Corporate World when she knew it was too much for me to do “full time ministry” and still have “full time corporate job” on the long run!
Finally, John Chau was literally HOOKED (by the spears of the tribes of the North Sentinel People). Now over to Jeffrey Gettleman, Kai Schultz, Ayesha Venkataraman and Hari Kumar who wrote about John Chau’s last few days for the New York Times, these lines (November 30, 2018):
“Mr. Chau landed in Port Blair on Oct. 16, 2018, traveled to another island in the Andamans and then returned to Port Blair (He was not a stranger to the Andamans. “In 2015, he made his first of four trips to the Andaman Island chain, basing himself in Port Blair, the main city. The men at the hotel where he usually stayed said he was friendly and always requested the same room: 121, a small single with a good view.” This room was like a two-star hotel room).
“There, he holed up for 11 days in a small apartment that he referred to as a “safe house” in a long note that the police found after his death. He wrote that he never saw sunlight that whole time.
“The police say he was doing this to avoid being spotted; his friends say he was trying to prevent himself from getting sick to protect the islanders, whose immune systems have been isolated so long that some experts say they could be wiped out by the common cold.
“With the help of a local evangelical, Mr. Chau hired five fishermen. Their boat was a battered wooden craft about 30 feet long, with a roof made of bamboo sticks and a plastic tarp. They chugged out the night of Nov. 14, 2018.
“When they reached North Sentinel in the morning, Mr. Chau assembled a collapsible kayak because the fishermen refused to go to the island with him, insisting on staying a half mile out.
“Mr. Chau saw some islanders on the beach, paddled up to them and tried to preach, saying: “My name is John, I love you and Jesus loves you,” according to the note. They raised their bows and he paddled back to the fishing boat.
“A few hours later, he tried walking onto the beach with some gifts like scissors and safety pins.
“A boy shot an arrow into a waterproof Bible he was carrying.
“Another islander, a man wearing a crown possibly made of flowers, stood on a coral rock and yelled at him.
“Mr. Pandya, one of the few anthropologists to have set foot on North Sentinel, said these were clear warnings.
“The islanders, he said, were saying: “I don’t want to engage with you, go away.”
“If they were so savage,” Mr. Pandya said, “they would have slaughtered him straight away.”
“The islanders chased Mr. Chau into the surf. He saw the fishermen far away, standing in the boat, waving their arms up and down, and swam to them.
“The last part of the note conveys fear. He wrote, “It almost seems like certain death to stay here.”
“But the next morning he insisted on sending the fishing boat away, saying in the letter he had met someone in South Africa who went through a similar experience on a different island in the Andamans and won the trust of islanders only after being dropped off by a boat.
“He seemed now to be contemplating the end, writing in the note, “Remember, the first one to heaven wins.”
“The fishermen told the police the next morning that Mr. Chau swam to the island. They then went to the ocean to fish.
“When they returned to North Sentinel a day later to check on him, they saw a group of islanders on the beach dragging Mr. Chau’s body with a rope.” (The New York Times, Nov. 30, 2018).
John Chau was hooked literally – killed – for the cause of Christ! Apostle Paul wrote, “However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace” (Acts 20:24). In the next chapter – Acts 21 – five prophets warned Paul not to go to Jerusalem to preach because of persecution they foresaw through the Spirit. And this was Paul’s response: Then Paul answered, “Why are you weeping and breaking my heart? I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.” (Acts 21:13). John Chau followed those words of Apostle Paul to the letter!
Would we be willing to take risks for the cause of the propagation of the Gospel of Jesus? For example, even now, we have the freedom to propagate any faith in India as per the constitution. So, that means, distributing Gospel tracts is legal in India. Would we be willing to pass out a good Gospel tract to fellow traveller, atleast? Or, will we be super-afraid?
With God-enabling us, we at Grabbing the Google Generation from Gehenna Mission have made it a point to have atleast one tract-distribution event (using our Bubbly/Dhoni-wala Gospel tract) per month. Only once, in all these years, we have faced any tinge of opposition. When that came, we quietly moved to another spot nearby to give tracts. And returned to the same place later on, to continue what we came to do! My tract ministry volunteer and friend, Arul Johnson, is particularly daring. If he spots a Policeman, he would give him a gospel tract! I am not that daring!
What is the worse thing that can happen to us when we boldly witness for Jesus? We can get killed for the same! So what? That would be “an out of turn promotion” to glory (as Evangelist Rajkumar Ramachandran often says).
John Chau is dead but his life speaks like the one the Bible speaks about in Hebrews 11:4. Like Jim Elliot’s missionary martyrdom in the 1960s inspired a wave of missionaries from America in the decades that followed, John Chau’s death in 2018 as a missionary martyr would do the same in a greater way (of this I am sure!). The Hindu Newspaper had his death as one of the events of the year in their 30 Dec 2018 edition. If the secular press rightly remembers the daring adventure of John Chau, how much more should we as believers do so? We must narrate his story to our kids and pump mission blood into them. We must narrate his story to our congregation (If I was a pastor I would do that) so that missionary spirit is pumped into our church members!
